For fathers day I bought my Stepdad a flight in a hot air ballon. It came around after a walk to the pub one night, just him and myself and we were jokingly talking about his bucket list and what he wants to do while he is fighting his cancer.
We had an early start - 4:45am my alarm went off as we had to be at the airfield by 6am to meet our pilot and help with the set up and inflation of the ballon.
Finally a clear day
As they unpacked the giant sack of silk, they instantly told us something was wrong. As the bag had been in storage for most of the year so far the silk balloon had managed to twist itself inside out and we would have to try and work out how to set about getting right.
Slowly getting there
After an hour of swearing and head scratching we finally made a break through and found the point where the balloon was tangled. Half of the balloon had turned itself inside out by going through one of the air vents in the side.
Finally getting there
In an instant we were off. Rising quickly to catch the winds that would carry us eastwards towards our destination. I never knew but the balloons are so manageable that the pilot could almost determin our direction based on our hight and which pockets of air we were moving through.
Deer in the wheat fields
A day neither of us would forget.
